this is why straight pride parades aren’t a thing

I was almost in denial so I had to look this up at some other sources (source) (source) and…

It is so much worse than it seems.

He was not breathing and unresponsive when emergency workers found him in his Lancaster home, and he died the next day.

His body showed signs of physical abuse and malnutrition, child welfare workers said, and his death was classified as suspicious.

And at first, I thought that was the worst it could get because JFC he’s 10, but no

Before his death, Anthony had suffered years of physical, sexual and emotional abuse at the hands of family members, according to the Department of Children and Family Services. Caseworkers responded to 12 different complaints between February 2013 and April 2016, including sexual abuse by a grandparent when Anthony was 4, and general neglect.

Emphasis mine

4. They’d been abusing this baby since he was at least 4, maybe younger.

“In private interviews, Anthony disclosed details consistent with media reports that he was beaten, locked up, and not fed,”

You’d think that something would be done, since caseworkers are clearly aware of the abuse. Buuut, no.

Anthony stayed with relatives from May to December 2014 while his family received in-home counseling, but he was eventually sent back home

So, they received numerous complaints about abuse. They’d interviewed the child and he admitted to being abused. They saw clear signs of abuse and neglect, and they still let him go back with his mother.

Not only did his parents fail (see: murder) him, so did the system. This child should’ve never been allowed to go back. Even his family agrees. His stepfather was a known homophobe.

I can’t even think of a clever way to end this… I’m just… horrified.
