white people are racist by default (in the united states as well as other countries). are you white? congrats, you’re racist, and here’s the explanation:
you grew up in a racist society -> you were socialized to be racist thanks to racism being a dominant ideology -> you benefit from racism -> you’re racist no matter how much u think you’re not.
unlearning it is going to be a constant battle and u will never unlearn it fully. accept this. it is ingrained in you as a result of your upbringing and the media you’ve consumed. the sooner you come to terms with your own racism, the sooner u can better yourself. recognize the problem in yourself instead of setting yourself apart from those “other” white people.
I fux heavy with the White people who keep putting this post on my dash
Yo yo yo. I have a Thing to say. Strap on your seatbelts because this is just wow.
I definitely agree that racism is an important issue and is definitely prevalent in everybody. Studies have shown that human beings are naturally inclined to shy away from organisms or people who don’t look like them. And yet, I have a Problem with this post. I completely and utterly agree that racism is wrong and that we all need to battle it ourselves. But it is simply not fair nor right to claim that this is a problem faced only by whites. I grew up (am growing up?) in an Asian family and I can’t count the number of times where my family, extended or otherwise, has perpetuated negative stereotypes about other races onto me. When I visited China, most of the population was Chinese. Which is fairly obvious. But the conversations I heard damning “foreigners” including white, black, and hispanic- even koreans and the japanese- were astounding. Heck, my family doesn’t even want me to marry somebody that’s not asian. This is not a White Person Problem. Yes, white people are the main perpetrators in predominantly white countries but we also need to remember that everyone of every race is guilty of this too. And yes, though I understand that Tumblr is a predominantly “European-style” community, I feel as though it’s only fair to remind us that minorities in a country can be racist in others. We should not allow minorities to sit back and feel superior that “of course they’re not racist” because of the way they look. That will never change anything. An asian woman humphing about how black people should not have rights is just as inexcusable as a white woman doing the same thing. Stereotypes are abundant in all communities, not just white ones.
